Job Summary:
The Backflow Prevention Technician is responsible for ensuring the proper installation, maintenance, and repair of backflow prevention devices. This role requires a thorough understanding of plumbing systems, backflow prevention regulations, and the ability to diagnose and resolve backflow issues efficiently. The Backflow Prevention Technician will collaborate closely with the plumbing team to ensure compliance with local codes and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Install, inspect, test, and repair backflow prevention devices according to established specifications and guidelines.
2. Conduct thorough inspections of plumbing systems to identify potential backflow hazards and recommend appropriate preventive measures.
3. Perform backflow preventer repairs and troubleshooting, including diagnosing issues, replacing faulty parts, and conducting necessary adjustments.
4. Ensure accurate completion of all required paperwork, including work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records.
5. Collaborate with clients to educate them on the importance of backflow prevention and provide guidance on compliance with local codes and regulations.
6. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring that all tools, equipment, and materials are properly stored and accounted for.
7. Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and advancements in backflow prevention techniques through continuous professional development.
8. Work collaboratively with the plumbing team to ensure seamless coordination and effective communication throughout all projects.
9. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring a safe work environment.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Valid plumbing license/certification in backflow prevention (preferred).
3. Minimum of 3 years of experience in plumbing, with a focus on backflow prevention.
4. Thorough knowledge of local plumbing codes, regulations, and best practices related to backflow prevention.
5. Proficient in reading and interpreting plumbing drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
6. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex backflow issues independently.
7. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in work.
8. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to clients and team members.
9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
10. Physical stamina and dexterity to perform plumbing tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and working in confined spaces.
11. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
